My old house had a lovely rose garden. Recently my husband and I decided to move to a new city. We scanned many just listed postcards looking for the house of our dreams. One of our requirements when looking at just listed real estate cards included looking for homes that had a lush backyard with a garden, or at least the possibility of growing a beautiful garden.
Fortunately we did find a home with a small garden we could plant roses in. Planting roses isn't as hard as you may think, though you do need to follow some key steps to ensure your garden comes out just right.
The rose flower is often thought of as a symbol of love. It can however represent other important emotions. Here are some common symbols associated with varying colored roses:
First, make sure you plant a rose garden where there is plenty of sunshine. Roses need a lot of light, up to six hours each day.
Eliminate the risk your roses will need to complete with weeds. You can do this by planting some shredded material around your roses.
Make sure you plant roses in batches that include lots of blended colors.
Keep in mind your roses will need lots of space to mature and grow fully.
Use good soil. You can import it if you need to. Try planting your roses in an environment with a pH that is between 5.5 and 6.5. This is the best environment for roses to grow in.
Be sure you water your roses well. Watering roses in the morning works best.
Make sure you prune your roses as they grow.
Roses often look terrific when planted near a wall or other sturdy body they can grow up against. Make sure you don't plant your roses somewhere however that will block out their sunlight. Most of the time a south facing rose garden does very well year round.
